If you’re a fan of the Alien franchise like I am, then Alien; The Illustrated Story from Archie Goodwin and Walter Simonson, will be a welcome graphic novel to add to your collection. We have all seen the films and we all know what to expect, however, when you get to read a book/Graphic Novel of a film, your imagination adds so much more to the experience. It was so much fun to go back and revisit this again after so many years of not watching the film. I was amazed at how much I remembered, and I found it hard to put down once I was turning the pages. The pace of the graphic novel was very good and it really gave me that ‘film feeling’ as I was reading it.

The graphic style is really complimentary, it all feels so natural and organic with the way the colours are used. I really liked the depth of each of the cells, this was helped along with how well everything was coloured, each cell was really felt like it should be there. The locations are really well done and really do compliment the film. The language used is very much in keeping with the film as well, and it’s what you would expect to hear people say in a scenario such as this.

Overall Alien; The Illustrated Story, is a great graphic novel and for a geek, like myself. I don’t think you can ever have too much Alien material to fill your shelves. A good buy for any Alien fans or even if you’re just a scifi or graphic novel/comic buff, it’s still a really good read.
